    The Light Leadership

    John & Maria Kovacs

    Pastor & Hospitality Team Coordinator

John is originally from New Orleans, where he still claims loyalties. It has been 16 years since he journeyed to Baltimore to study art at The Maryland Institute, earning degrees in painting and community arts. It was during this season that John surrendered his plans and existence to God. He is a proud husband to Maria and father of two awesome boys, Jonathan and Travis. As pastor of The Light, John is passionate about equipping people to use their gifts in the world to the glory of God.

Maria moved to Baltimore from her home state of Arkansas in 2008 to work with local churches equipping them for outreach and evangelism. She became part of The Light that same year, finding a unique and close-knit community that became a home away from home. Maria married John in 2010 and has served in various leadership capacities with The Light since that time. Maria and John have adopted their two sons, Jonathan and Travis, through foster care in Baltimore City. Maria loves Baltimore and is passionate about seeing youth thrive and families experience wholeness.

    Rebecca Fanning

    Administrative & Worship Coordinator

A native of North Texas, Rebecca came to Baltimore in the fall of 2014 to pursue a masters degree at Peabody Conservatory, and joined The Light soon after. Her heart is to lead and equip the people of God to be creative and powerful worshippers with freedom and excellence. While she originally came to Baltimore to pursue her education, she has stayed because of the incredible things God is daily teaching her about loving this city and its beautiful people well.

    Cynthia Miller

    Leadership Health & Development Coordinator

A native of Southeast Georgia, Cynthia arrived in Baltimore via NoVA in late 2013 to pursue a masters in Liberal Arts at The John Hopkins University. Early on, she knew she had found her tribe and home in Baltimore City, and 7 months later, she found her family in The Light. Cynthia has a heart for motivating and empowering people to live supernatural lifestyles rooted in identity, joy, freedom, obedience, and authority. You can find her throughout the DMV area as she lives out her dream of performing arts (onstage & backstage) or helping with community activist groups in Baltimore.

    Caitlyn Bowman

Serving Leadership Team: Hospitality & Teaching

Growing up in south central Pennsylvania, Baltimore was always the closest "big city" for Caitlyn. Since moving to Baltimore in 2012 for graduate school in biochemistry at Johns Hopkins, Caitlyn's heart for the people of Baltimore has continually grown as she catches glimpses of God's immense love for this city. A recent graduate, she is forever a student of God's truth as revealed through His Word and His creation, and she delights in sharing His creativity and loving promises with others. She desires to bring glory to God through her vocation, and she finds great joy in serving through hospitality team and outreach opportunities - particularly The Light's partnership with Acts4Youth!

    Nathan Cornelius

Serving Leadership Team: Teaching & Worship

Nathan came to Baltimore in 2015 to study guitar and music theory at the Peabody Conservatory, and was drawn to The Light's atmosphere of family and authenticity on his very first Sunday in Baltimore. Since then, he has sought to grow in sharing life with his church family and in cultivating his passion for teaching. He wants to help create spaces where people can catch sight of God's glory and truth revealed in Scripture and in song, so that they can respond in worship and life-change.

    Michelle Miller

Serving Leadership Team: Teaching & Worship

Michelle arrived in Baltimore in 2014 from Melbourne, Australia for a postdoctoral research fellowship in structural biology/biochemistry at Johns Hopkins University. She has a heart for worship, prayer and intercession, as well as seeing Baltimore made whole. And an interesting fact about Michelle - she speaks Mandarin!

    David Mueller

Serving Leadership Team: Worship & Systems

A native of Lockport, NY, David moved to Baltimore in 2013 for an orthopaedic physical therapy residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and George Washington University. He found The Light at the beginning of this time, and since then has enjoyed serving in the church in multiple capacities during its growth prior to his current roles. David desires to continue to see people find freedom, wholeness, and healing through Christ within and outside of the church.
